Ridley Girls’ Lacrosse is trying to get back on the winning track this season.
“My expectation for this season is to make playoffs,” said Emily Johnston, a senior captain for the Lady Raiders. The vital part of winning lacrosse games is scoring goals. Seniors Hannah Crowley and Emily Johnston are two of the team’s top scorers. Hannah Crowley and Emily Johnston are the team’s offensive weapons and captains. “We hope to make playoffs this year and have a solid team,” said Emily Johnston.
The backbone to every good team is defense. Senior Deanna Huboky is the team’s goalie. She says that she plans on protecting the goal so that the opponents won’t score. “It’s my job to protect the goal and that’s what I am going to do.”
The team plans on improving their record from last year’s season. Coach Jill Davis, a former Lady Raider said, “We work the girls hard in practice everyday, so that we can accomplish our goal and that’s making playoffs.”
For the past few seasons the Lady Raiders, had a hard time in the competitive Central League. They are looking to better last year’s record of 5-13 and absence from the playoffs.
“All 35 girls work very hard to get the winning mind set and to make sure the girl next to them works just as hard as them,” Coach Davis stated. The Lady Raiders add new contributors to the team, including incoming freshmen to help pick up the slack on the both ends of the field.
“ all of the hard work we do will pay off on the field or make us better people as long as everyone respects each other” said Sophomore Haley Adam stated. In the past the team unfortunately played as individuals instead of a team and that really didn’t work.
This year’s motto is ‘play as a team’ and to get back to the playoffs.
