The Ridley High School has three softball teams, Varsity, JV-A, and JV-B. The team has been holding open gyms since the beginning of the school year, however they did not split up into teams and start individual team practices until the middle of March. A few girls play on two teams due to the low numbers this year.
Varsity has two coaches, head coach Brooke Berger and assistant coach Dave McMenamin. Varsity is currently (4-3) with wins over Cardinal O’Hara, Chichester, Lower Merion, and Garnet Valley. Varsity started off the season strong according to varsity player Alexa Moore who said “we started off the season winning which helped boost the morale of the team.”
JV-A has one coach, Molly Quinn a science teacher at the high school. JV-A is currently (4-2). JV-A has a very strong defense and is “strong like a brick wall” says Sophomore Haley Laureta.
Skylar Robey also said “the girls on JV-A can hit which helps a lot”.
JV-B has one coach as well, Sarah Harris. The team has had two games and they lost the first game and won their second game. According to freshman Skylar Robey JV-B is more relaxed than JV-A. “Everyone is always up against the fence when someone is up to bat. I bring my speaker to the games and we have a blast,” said Robey.
The girls said Ridley softball as a whole is like a family. Many of the girls have played together for years before the high school team. The girls have played together on tournament teams like Delco Force and club teams like Kedron, Nall Athletic Club, and Ridley Park.
Haley Laureta said “the Ridley softball organization is a very fun activity made great by coaches and the players. Everyone is so kind & considerate of others.”
