This summer the Ridley School District updated its website. The old website, which had been in use for years, was replaced over the summer under the direction of superintendent Dr. Wentzel.
“The previous website company was no longer supporting features of the website that we used, such as form submission, and the cost was increasing for fewer features. The design, style, and features available for the site were dated. We interviewed 3 additional companies for comparison and opted for West. West coordinates with our School Messenger system.”
She also said that the website is still a work in progress. “A good website is always a work in progress. We build pages almost daily. It also takes time to train different people to manage specific pages.”
Numerous teachers and tech people from the school were involved.
“Mr. Otto, Ms. Pena, and Ms. Luistro-Whalen have been involved since beginning with the initial technical aspects. We also consulted with our art department teachers regarding the graphic design choices.”
The new website features a new look as well as an entirely new layout. The website also added a section for community news and information. Information and news concerning parents has been greatly expanded and added under “For Parents”. Students can find information including but not limited to lunch menus under “For Students”. The site also features web portals for parents and students.
Senior Alex Joyce have mixed feelings about it.
“It looks much better, but the navigation is noticeably worse than on the old website. While it is not currently a better resource, the new website has room to improve.”
Alex uses the RSD website for information supplied on teacher’s pages.
